Happy June!

A pretty low key week with rain that kept us in the house during the week.  We finally received Ayson's Boehm-3 and DIAL Preschool test results (to let us know that he was all set for Kindergarten...even though we already attended Kindergarten orientation...).  It was interesting to read the reports and to learn what is expected of Kindergartners.  Addie is doing well but we are trying to get her to stop sucking her thumb.  As a baby step, Mommy only wants Addie to suck her thumb during naps and at night and not when she is just tired or needs comfort.

On Monday, Ayson brought home pictures from last Friday's Class picture in support of Casi.  The below 2 pictures are the kids in Ayson's afternoon Pre-K class (Casi is in the morning Pre-K).






The kids LOVE to check the rain gauge and it rained Monday-Wednesday so there was plenty of opportunity to check!  Daddy has already had to order a replacement rain gauge...he probably should have ordered more than one :)  The glass gauge sits in the cute frog figurine holding an umbrella...too cute for a kiddo to resist!

On Saturday morning, we went to the BIG park so that the kids could go fishing (Daddy caught a trout!).  The kids also played on the playground equipment, rode their bikes, and visited with Ayson's classmates that were playing T-ball.  What a great morning!

Saturday afternoon, we took Gianna's suggestion and placed the sprinkler under the trampoline. What a BLAST!  Auntie HOlly, have you tried out the trampoline/sprinkler fun before?

The kids helping Mommy husk the corn on the cob for dinner.  Ayson and Daddy went to the store during Addie's nap to buy fish (fish dinner on the brain from Saturday morning...Daddy did not keep the trout from the Big park) and Ayson picked out the corn.

Mommy was all out of graham crackers so we used what we had around the house: mini vanilla wafers that were fused together. Mommy had to pour out the box of wafers to find enough "twin" wafers to make 3 S'mores :)

On Sunday, we discovered a garter snake that lives under/behind the back porch (the porch is a fall project for Daddy to rip out and replace some time in the next 2-5 years :)  The kids were fascinated with the snake and kept waiting for the snake to make an appearance.



More trampoline/sprinkler fun spiced up with beach balls.  Daddy would throw the ball in and Ayson would throw it back out.  Both boys were having a ton of fun!



The past couple of weeks, Ayson has been learning about farm, pond, and ocean life and things at the beach.

Smiles and S'mores

Happy June to everyone!  All is well with A^4.  Addie has a slight cold but it did not slow her down. Ayson and Daddy took the boat out and went fishing on Saturday morning (no pictures) and Ayson caught FOUR fish!  Then Saturday night, the boys spent a chilly night in the fort.  Ayson was wiped out Sunday night after a weekend of fun with Daddy.

Rainy Monday equals indoor sand playtime!  Both kiddos got out the farm equipment to play in the sand.





On Tuesday, temps were a bit warmer.  Grandma Pat, Mommy thought of you while making Addie pose next to the pretty flowers.  Grandma loves to get pictures next to pretty flowers!


Ayson was riding his bike and then EVERYONE wanted to get in on the basketball fun.

In the morning Pre-K class, there is a little boy with brain cancer :(  SO on Friday, all the Pre-K kiddos wore Minion T-shirts that said "One in a Minion" and had Casi's name on the back.  If Mommy receives a copy of the picture with the kids wearing the t-shirts, she will share it with everyone.

Addie was upset because we told her that she would not get a S'more until she finished her pizza and ate her garlic chicken wing (life is SO hard... :)

On Saturday, Gianna showed us a new hat that she received from a lacrosse tournament...now we all have fun hats!  However, Addie did NOT want her picture taken!

Saturday night, Ayson wanted to sleep in the fort.  So Daddy got out the air mattress, pillows, sleeping bags, blankets, a lantern, and the Kindle.  The temps dipped down to 44 Saturday night...brr! Mommy was even cold in the upstairs bedroom with a sheet and quilt.

Kindergarten Orientation and Relay for Life

We had a busy week with Kindergarten orientation for Ayson on Wednesday and then Mommy took Addie to the Drs Thursday night for a spreading rash that turned out to be contact dermatitis. Something Addie was exposed to, possibly over the weekend, did not agree with her. On Saturday, we headed out to Grandma Collene's to participate in the Relay for Life walk.

Wednesday evening was Kindergarten orientation.  Both Mommy and Daddy were surprised at the amount of "homework" the kids came away with for the summer: sight words, reading, numbers, writing/drawing in a journal...

Ayson did a great job of listening/paying attention to Mrs Blossy before, during, and after the story.



There will be 3 classes of kids in kindergarten in the fall ranging in size from 16-18 kids.  We visited 5 rooms that introduced us the the various concepts that the kids would be covering in kindergarten: numbers/math, letters, sight words, writing, and reading strategies.

Math/numbers with Mrs McClary.  A numbers game where the kids had to swat, with a "number swatter (fly swatter)" a number on the ground and then read the number out loud.



A counting game where the kids had to count in a round to 20.  Lily and Ayson were the last 2 to say the number 20 (if the number you said was 20, you got to sit down) so they went back and forth counting to 20.



Sight words with Mrs Chapman.  The kindergarten students will know 40 sight words (he, the, she...) by the end of the year.



Writing with Mrs Thorton.  This summer, Ayson has a journal he has to add to every week with words and pictures.



Learning more about letters with Mrs Long.



Reading strategies with Mrs Woodworth and Ms Bailey, also known as the "Book Cart Ladies" as they go around to the classes with a "mobile" library where kids can check out books (in addition to going to the school library).   They gave the kids a "book worm" that can be built with colored beads and a pipe cleaner.  Each bead represents a book that the kids have read.



Ayson won the big raffle: a new back pack filled with school supplies he will need in the fall!

On Saturday, we joined Grandma Collene in the Relay for Life festivities.  The day started off really warm and then a storm front rolled in and the temps dropped to the 50s.
